Health Impairment

Physical downsides

Effects of obesity on health.
Overweight and obesity are associated with an extensive list of physical ailments including coronary heart disease, angina and congestive heart failure.

Certain types of cancer, in particular breast, prostate and colon cancers are more likely to affect people suffering with obesity. Type 2 diabetes, strokes, osteoarthritis and gallstones are also common. Obesity also causes breathing problems, in particular obstructive sleep apnoea. On a day-to-day basis, it is the source of a number of psychological disorders such as depression and low self-esteem. Other debilitating effects include skin problems and infertility.

As a general guideline, obesity has roughly the same association with chronic health conditions as twenty years of ageing. Overall it's leaving us with a slim chance of a healthy future.
