Staff Profile - Paul Berriman, Remote Site Medic
Paul commenced his medical career with the British Military Service, including
working as a Petty Officer Medical Assistant in the Royal Marines, and
began his association with Frontier Medical in 1999.
Paul is an experienced professional with enhanced emergency response skills.
His communication skills, both written and oral, have enabled him to
communicate well at all levels of management. He is able to work
effectively within a team environment with the drive, enthusiasm and
flexibility to achieve a high level of professionalism in all aspects
of his role.
Paul has worked as a remote site medic for Petroleum Geophysical
Services where he was responsible for the medical welfare of both the ship
and seismic crews. Paul conducted regular galley inspections and reported
on health and safety issues to the Party Chief. He took an active part in
the drills for emergency response simulated exercises and was actively
involved in promoting health awareness. As an HSE Field Supervisor,
Paul was responsible for promoting HSE management systems including the
delivery of HSEQ related training programmes both on and offshore,
auditing and reporting on all HSEQ matters.
Current skills include, but are not limited to, camp and food
hygiene and safety, history-taking, diagnosis and management of both
minor and major medical and traumatic problems, ATLS approach to trauma,
airway management including oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal and endotracheal
airways, oxygen therapy, assisted ventilation, needle decompression of
tension pneumothorax, IV cannulation and infusion, spinal immobilization,
traction splintage of femoral fractures, splinting of other injuries,
preparation for and conduct of aero-medical evacuation, prevention and
management of cold injuries, and prevention and management of heat illness.
Paul has a keen interest in Occupational Health and Health and
Safety matters and has completed his NEBOSH certificate and Workplace
Risk Assessors course. He has attended Medscreen to undertake training
in the Chain of Custody for drug and alcohol testing.
His interests include cycling and general fitness training
and he is fully competent in the use of several computer packages.
Paul is keen to continue his career in challenging positions throughout
the world and to utilise the experience that he has gained to provide
a high standard of medical care and HSE management in a professional
manner.
